A Study on Distribution of Histocompatibility Antigen in Schizophrenics

Abstract
It has been recognized that HLA Class II antigen is more closely related with certain diseases than Class I antigen. In schizophrenic patients, study on HLA antigen done were almost class I antigen.
For more clarifying, author studied on the association with Class II antigens in 33 Korean schizophrenic patients under the base of DSM-III criteria. HLA antigen typing tray was supplied from UCLA, Terasaki¢¥s laboratory.
The results are as follows:
1. The relative risk and etiologic fraction of HLA-DR5, and DQw3 are 2.03/0.19 and 1.37/0.16 respectively.
2. In paranoid type, the relative risk and etiologic fraction of HLA-DR5, and DQw3 are 3.12/0.32 and 1.51/0.20 respectively.
Since HLA- DQw3 have been known to be associated with DR 5 commonly, results from this study provide confirmatory evidence that there is a positive association between HLA-DR5 and schizophrenia especially in paranoid type.
